Becca’s story

I lost my dad in March 2024 when I was 23.

I had moved to australia 6 weeks before it happened and was there at the time, even though he was poorly when I made the decision to move out here him and my mum were adamant that I still came over as they knew it was my dream.

Being away from home when it happened was extremely hard, even though I had amazing friends in Australia I still felt extremely alone, and very very far away from home. However, I made the decision alongside my mum to stay in Australia for a few weeks after as that was the best way for me to cope and deal with the loss.

I decided after a month and a half it was time to go home, however when I got there it didn’t feel like home anymore- the biggest part of home which was my dad was no longer there.

After 2 months at home I came back out to australia, I knew that was what he would want me to do. My mum decided to spend our first Christmas without dad in Australia with me, making amazing memories.

My dad had travelled the world including Australia in the navy when he was younger, and being out here travelling the world makes me feel very close to him.
