Our 2025 Runner’s stories
Every year we have an amazing team of runners, and many of them have also lost one or both parents as a young adult. We want to share their stories to help show to you that you’re not alone in your grief!
We have also shared their JustGiving links, so if any resonate with you and you’d like to help fund our work here are It’s Time click the links! And a huge thank you for all the support.
Liam’s story:
On September 28th, 2024, I received a call from my sister with the tragic news that my dad, Kevin, had suffered a fatal heart attack and had suddenly passed away while on a family holiday. Losing him so unexpectedly was devastating, and navigating life without him has been incredibly difficult.
In memory of my dad, I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon and raising money for It's Time Charity, which specializes in supporting young adults who have lost a parent.
Jessica’s story:
When my Mum was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer during my second year at university, everything changed. It was an incredibly difficult and painful time, as she battled the disease for 11 months. Unfortunately, she passed away before I finished my degree, and I was left to navigate the world without her support.
Grief is such a deeply personal experience, and it can often feel isolating. But by sharing my story, I am creating a space where others can connect, find solace, and know that it’s okay to grieve, to miss, and to keep going. My mum’s spirit is with me every step of the way, and I continue to live my life in a way that would make her proud. I carry her love, strength, and positivity in everything I do.
I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Its Time Charity, an organization that supports young adults experiencing the loss of a parent, just as I did. I hope to use my run to honour my mum’s memory, help others in need, and continue pushing forward in a way she would be proud of.
Boris’ story:
Loved ones are leaving simply too early! Regardless of your age, you just wish they stay around longer.
This is how I would describe how I feel about my mother Évelyne passing away following her fight with cancer.
Furthermore, my wife lost her father suddenly when she was young and she was by my side to support me through this time.
However, I’m just extremely grateful for the time i spent with my mum, for the way she raised me and for allowing me to become the person i am today.
Surround yourself with great people and push yourself to live your life without regrets!
Sam’s story:
In April, I’ll be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for a charity that is incredibly close to my heart, It’s Time.
I lost both of my parents at the ages of 14 and 17, and I know firsthand how isolating and overwhelming that can be. It’s something no young person should ever have to face alone, yet so many do.
That’s why I’m passionate about raising as much as possible for this cause, to ensure that others receive the support they need during such a challenging time.
James’ story:
I’m running the Manchester marathon in memory of my Dad who passed away back in 2004 when I was 16. For years I struggled to deal with the sudden loss, especially as there were no signs or warning.
When I came across It’s Time I knew straight away I wanted to raise money for this charity.
Not just for the memory of my Dad but to also help others going through the same tough times.
A community of support that I didn’t realise I probably needed, that I would love to be able to access if I was in that position now.
