Our goal is to create safe spaces for young adults to talk about losing a parent and meet others going through similar things, which is why we have set up this book club! Reading can be a great way to relax and take your mind off difficult situations but it can also be a powerful way to understand your feelings by finding characters you relate to or reading to non-fiction.
JOIN OUR BOOK CLUB
What books will we read?
The books will be chosen by the book club every month but our team have been researching and collecting a range of books that cover topics of grief and loss. The books may cover the loss of a parent but we have also chosen books that cover diverse experiences of grief.
Trigger warnings
For every book we will include a list of trigger warnings.
We know that grief can often come with new triggers and we don’t want our book club to cause harm. If a book includes a topic that is triggering for you, don’t feel the pressure to read, we can offer alternative options. And when we put the polls out to vote on the book, feel free to share with the group or our facilitors if you think the book would be triggering for you and we can support you.
How do I join?
We will be hosting the book club on our online community and you can join here.
You can download the app Mighty Networks to have the book club on your phone or you can use the desktop version. It’s a bit like an oldschool forum, which makes it perfect for chatting to people from all around the UK!
How does it work?
There will be one book a month. Every month we will put out a poll of 3 books to choose from, so you always have a choice of what we will be reading that month.
Throughout the month we will share polls, questions and discussion points to see how you’re feeling about the book. The community page will be open for everyone to leave their thoughts and chat about the book during the month as we read together!
