Millie’s story

In November 2024, I lost my dad after a month of being unwell with cancer.

Just before he fell ill, I had started my career as a registered nurse, and he was so proud of me—his support and encouragement meant everything. His death is something I am still processing due to how quick it all came around.

Navigating grief since his passing has been incredibly difficult, and it’s hard to process the void he’s left in my life, not just for me, but for my mum and my sister too.

He was the rock of our family, always proud of each of us. He knew everything about anything and he would be the first person I would call if I was in need of advice or to tell him how my day was.

Losing him at such a young age has been especially challenging, as I grow into a young adult and it’s hard to imagine my future milestones without him. The thought of facing major life moments without his presence scares me, but I hold onto the pride he had in us all as a source of strength.

He was a wonderful person and my only wish in life is to make him proud.
